Hey Maton! Reissue the ‘Sharkbite’ Fyrbyrd!

Fellow guitarnerds, UNITE! Let’s try and get this Australian classic back into production!

I’ve written many times about my love for the Maton 620 Fyrbyrd. This sharkbite Australian classic that is one of the coolest guitars ever to be made in this country. It was so far ahead of it’s time, it’s taken 50 years for the world to catch up!

Well, last week after playing a new Maton Mastersound reissue I was thinking for the hundreth time ‘This is a great guitar. But I REALLY wish Maton would bring back the Fyrbyrd.’ Well, after saying it so many times, I’ve decided to do something about it.

Using the wonders of the modern social networking system that is known as ‘face book’ (I know, I’ve never heard of it either… but all the cool kids seem to be into it) I’ve started up a Facebook group called ‘Hey Maton! Reissue the Fyrbyrd! What you can do to help is to join the group, and hopefully when we have TEN MILLION members (or thereabouts) Maton will think… ‘Hey, you know, we should get the dudes in the workshop to knock something up and see if it sells’.

Then I’ll buy a red one and be really happy. Oh, and you could buy one to if you want. Join the facebook group here! DOOOOOO IIIIIIT!!!

To get the ball rolling of what is possible, here’s a modern tribute to the Maton Fyrbyrd, my fabulous Tym T-Byrd Bass that I did a guitar nerd story on ages ago… check it out here.

So, guitarists of the world… unite and drag this forgotten classic from the mists of time and rip it screaming into the present!!!! (Soley because I want one.)

Oh, and while you’re at Facebook joining that awesome group, why not join up to the official guitarnerd group? Yes, that’s right, guitarnerd is now on myface… or facespace… or whatever it’s called. Write comments, post up photos of your favourite guitars… it’s a place for us to congregate and nerd out on guitars to our hearts content without fear of retribution from the ‘unbelievers’.
